What pansexual means

Pansexual people are attracted to people regardless of gender or sex. Gender plays no role for them in who they find attractive: it's about the person, not the label attached to that person.

That makes pansexuality different from bisexuality, where attraction does still relate to gender, even when it spans multiple genders. Both fall under the wider bi+ umbrella, and many people use the terms alongside each other.

At The Pineapple Club, it's about who you are, not which label goes with it. Our code of conduct applies to every member, whatever your orientation.

Pansexual versus bisexual

The difference isn't in how many people you like, but in the role gender plays in that. With bisexuality, gender is one of the factors involved; with pansexuality, it deliberately plays no role. Both terms exist side by side, and many people move between them over time as they get to know themselves better.

Some pansexual people describe their attraction as "gender-blind". Others would rather not use a label at all. Both are equally valid. At The Pineapple Club, we never ask for a fixed label, only for openness about who you're bringing along and what you're looking for.

For example

Think of someone attracted to a non-binary person, a man and a woman, without gender weighing into that choice at all. What counts is the connection with the person themselves.

Note: for more on the distinction between bisexual and pansexual, see Switchboard (Dutch, LGBTQ+ helpline and information centre).

The Pineapple Club

The person, not the label

That’s the starting point within The Pineapple Club too. Come as you are, attracted to who you’re attracted to.
